Talented young musicians from North Ayrshire won gold at the National Concert Band Festival's Scottish finals.

The event was held at Garnock Community Campus on Sunday, January 21, and saw the North Ayrshire Schools' Concert Band take the top prize with a fantastic performance.

A spokesperson for North Ayrshire Council said on X (formerly Twitter): "And it's gold for the NA Schools' Senior Concert Band. Amazing performance.

"Well done to all the pupils and staff for their hard work. A fabulous day of music!"

Six bands from all over Scotland competed at the event, with the North Ayrshire senior band competing against ensembles representing Edinburgh Academy and Strathclyde University as well as from closer to home in the shape of Stewarton Winds and the Garnock Valley Community Band.

The National Concert Band Festival (NCBF) celebrates and promotes the music and activities of wind bands and jazz bands by holding regional festivals across the UK as well as a national festival.

The organisation aims to provide unique performing opportunities in a friendly, welcoming and musically enriching environment.

Rather than competing against each others, the youngsters perform in front of their peers, parents, audience, and adjudicators who offer feedback.

Bands are critiqued against the various aspects of performance and are awarded a certificate signifying their success: platinum, gold, silver or bronze.

The bands who won big at Sunday's event will now be invited to perform at the NCBF National Festival in Warwick on March 16 and 17.
