A MAN has appeared in court charged with carrying out a violent assault on his partner at an Irvine hotel.

Luke Connor, 40, is alleged to have assaulted the woman at the Riverside Lodge Hotel in Annick Road on May 2 last year.

Court papers state he allegedly struck her on the head causing her to fall to the ground.

It's claimed he then repeatedly kicked and punched her to the head and body.

Mr Connor faces three charges, all of which he denied during a brief hearing at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court this week.

The Crown's indictment alleges that Mr Connor then struck her on the head with a blunt object, to her injury.

He faces a second assault charge alleging that he slapped the same woman and punched her head repeatedly in Chestnut Drive, Girvan on May 3, 2021, causing her to lose consciousness.

That charge claims the alleged attack was so serious that it left the woman severely injured and permanently disfigured.

Mr Connor faces a third charge accusing him of threatening behaviour by shouting, being aggressive and making threats to the complainer over both dates.

Mr Connor of Front Street in Burnhope, County Durham, pleaded not guilty to the three charges on the indictment when the case called at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Monday, November 7.

He was remanded in custody and will face the charges at a later date.
