A Dreghorn woman has been ordered to carry out unpaid work after shouting and swearing whilst drunk at hospital.

Briony McCann, 24, appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week where she admitted the charge.

The court heard how on October 22 an ambulance was called to an address in Saltcoats where the accused was said to have an injury to her head and be heavily under the influence of alcohol.

Ambulance staff decided that she should be taken to Crosshouse Hospital because they believed she had fallen but when she got there she became violent and unpredictable and was shouting and swearing.

Procurator Fiscal Depute, Stuart McMillan, said that patients were disturbed and she was asked to calm down by police and she told them to “f**k off” before she tried to leave.

Efforts were made to ensure she stayed within the hospital due to her injury and she continued to shout and swear.

A charge of assault against the shop assistant was dropped in a plea deal and the court heard how she had to be restrained after swinging her arms before she was deemed fit to be taken to the police office.

McCann’s lawyer said she had recently moved to Dreghorn due to changes in working hours and benefits and that she was keen to carry out unpaid work.

Sheriff David Hall said: “This type of behaviour is not acceptable. Staff, patients and police should not have been subjected to this type of behaviour. It was right out of order the way you behaved that night."

Sheriff Hall ordered her to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work for the community.
