A MAN who knocked out a gatecrasher in an Irvine bar is awaiting sentencing.

Kevin Agnew, 43, last week admitted punching the man causing him to hit his head on a radiator rendering him unconscious.

The Campsie Way man also behaved abusively during the incident at Irvine Water Sports Club, Harbour Road, on May 15 this year.

A court heard how the 34-year-old complainer and a friend, aged 31, arrived at the club while a 50th birthday party was ongoing at around 11.30pm.

Neither of them were invited to the party but Agnew, however, was a guest.

Both of the gatecrashers were highly intoxicated and started arguing with Agnew.

According to fiscal depute, Kirsty Urquhart, despite trying to leave, Agnew approached the pair at the front door area.

Agnew punched the 34-year-old man once to the head and rendered him unconscious.

Witnesses removed Agnew but was asked to remain nearby once police had arrived.

However, he began shouting aggressively: “I’ll give you’s the same if you don’t get out my way.”

Police and ambulance services attended and Agnew was detained.

Appearing without legal representation, Agnew pleaded guilty to the offence at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court.

Agnew faced questioning from presiding Sheriff Shirley Foran and immediately took issue with the narration provided by Ms Urquhart.

He said: “The statement was not the exact story.

“I was with my partner and one of the guys put his arms round her and I asked him outside.

“I went to go outside but his friend was in front of me and they weren’t leaving.

“The guy was going outside to thingmy with me.”

Sheriff Foran responded: “I take it you did not expect to go outside for a chat?

“You were following them for a fight.”

Agnew simply replied: “Yes.”

Sentence was deferred on Agnew until January in order to gather social work reports.
