POLICE are appealing for information after a pensioner was assaulted on Christmas Eve.

At around 6pm on Saturday, December 24, the 65-year-old man was walking his dog and had cut through an unlit area of Boutreehill Park using his torch to guide him.

He was then approached by two men who initially asked to borrow his torch.

When he refused to hand it over he was pushed to the ground and the suspects punched and kicked him before grabbing his torch and running off.

He then made his way to a friend’s house and contacted police.

The suspects are described as being around 5ft 7in and in their early 20s.

One had brown collar length hair and was wearing a light coloured jacket. The other was wearing a camel jacket.

Anyone who witnessed this incident or knows the identity of the suspects is asked to contact police at Saltcoats via 101.

Alternatively calls can be made to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where anonymity can be maintained.
