RUNNERS from across Ayrshire braved the chill on Boxing Day to help raise over £2,000 for an Irvine boy.

They may have been caked in mud but that didn’t stop the dozens who descended on Dundonald Castle for the annual Boxing Day Boomerang 5km and 10km runs.

And they managed to raise a fantastic £2,010 to help send Woodlands Primary School pupil, Jackson Waddell, to America for a life-changing operation.

In total, £1,010 was raised on the day from the runners with an incredible £1,000 donation coming from the family of Raegan Murray who benefited from last year’s event.

Like Reagan, five-year-old Jackson suffers from cerebral palsy and walks with a frame.

However, if his family are successful in raising enough money, he could benefit from an operation that may help him to walk.

Jackson’s story touched event organiser Scott Brown who was determined to raise as much money as possible for him.

And he wasn’t left disappointed as runners of all fitness levels were more than happy to chip in and take part.
